ABSTRACT

A crucial factor in the ability of women to work, to improve their family's situation and to gain some measure of independence, is the availability of household help. If women work in animal husbandry, collection of manure, handicrafts, they are allowed to remain near the home, in an effort to achieve successful integration of familial and productive roles. Rural nurseries are often in the charge of older women no longer able to perforin field work, Baby care costs half a work point daily, a toddler a whole work point and those requiring constant care one and a half work points. The Socialist Labour Law of North Korea adopted by the People's Assembly on April 18, 1978, includes an article providing conditions enabling women to work. Communist nations are finding the reconciliation of their aim of liberating women for productive work with the need to relieve women of household chores as difficult as are countries in the third and developed worlds.
