ABSTRACT

Five years passed after Tamars return home, and peace of mind eluded her. Many marriage brokers knocked on the Rabbi’s door, but Tamar was unwilling to hear them out. When they spoke to her she pointed to Jonathan’s photograph on the wall and said, “Give me this man, for I will marry only him and will never give my love to another.” Reb Nahum pleaded with her (but in vain) to forget Jonathan for so much time passed and who knew if he would ever return. She should marry some other good Jew before her aging parents died. She would be alone, and who would help her? If Jonathan did not come home she would remain single in her father’s house until she was old and grey.
