ABSTRACT

Diversity must be planned with care, and new innovations require new styles of management. A particular technique for encouraging diversity of purpose within an institution is the adoption of some variant of the American credit system. There are two fundamental reasons why the world’s educators must expect and foster a diversity of institutions. The first stems from the need to provide educational services for an increasingly larger cross-section of society as we strive for equality of opportunity. The second reason is simply that particular educational needs differ, both among individual societies and among the various social settings within a given society. Two noteworthy examples of universities that deliberately set out to solve challenging management problems are Bu-Ali Sina University in Iran and Aalborg University Center in Denmark. Establishing a system of faculty rewards was the final element in Bu-Ali Sina’s management challenge.
