ABSTRACT

In November 1982, Derbyshire County Council published the Report of its Working Party on Community Education. In focusing on only one community school we are open to the charge which states that the sample is too small or unrepresentative to allow for generalisation. Though the Headteacher of Huntingdon School, Mr Rollings is writing about conflicts between school and home, it is to the home he looks for support for the school and the schoolteacher. The attitudes of staff towards a community say in teacher appointments was what we had expected. Of our respondents only the Head had had any experience of working in a community school and of all the staff, only he had received any in-service training for community education. The questionnaires, the interviews and the comments of the Head lead to the major problem facing community education at Huntingdon and it is concerned with the attitude of staff to community education.
