ABSTRACT

An understanding of the relationship between career, job and work situation is also useful for a consideration of the behaviour and attitudes or organisation members in terms of the integrated theory of occupational choice developed earlier. The relationship between career, work situation and job factors provides an important base for the empirical research in this chapter, an examination of, the attitudes of recent graduates towards particular features of their jobs and work situation. The chapter is concerned with attitudes towards appraisals, promotion, grading, salary, security, supervision and information sources, based on the organisational experiences of graduates, and with comparing such experiences with what graduates would regard as an ideal situation. The graduates were asked the extent to which they used; firstly, the factual knowledge gained in their degree course; and, secondly, the extent to which they used the skills and methods learnt on their degree course.
