ABSTRACT

The evolutionary development of turbofans and turbojets into the next century will stress the gradual improvement of existing aeroengine designs. The most significant technical advances will occur as a result of more sophisticated aerodynamic and heat-transfer (thermodynamics) designs, digital electronic fuel controls, raised cycle temperatures and pressures, improved materials and advanced manufacturing methods. In general, advances in increased engine thrust-to-weight performance and decreased SFC can be safely predicted (Figures 15 and 16).
