ABSTRACT

Lauren Gunderson is a playwright, storyteller, and screenwriter who has recently become one of the most produced playwrights in America, and certainly the most produced female playwright for both the 2017–2018 and the 2018–2019 theatre seasons. Many of her plays combine her passion for history, science, and Shakespeare with her activism. Gunderson values research, education, and dramatic structure. She is passionate about the social role of theatre that comes from its innate congregational aspect. Gunderson masterfully tells stories that are simultaneously touching, funny, and extremely theatrical. Gunderson’s plays are able to ignite empathy and engage audiences of all ages while maintaining a whimsical, light tone. She makes the audience laugh, cry, then laugh again through their tears, in plays such as The Revolutionists and Silent Sky.
