ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we only address verbal interaction between two nursing staff members.

We will disregard times when more people interact, like team meetings for instance. But even though the suggested rules are described as codifying the interaction between two people, most of them are valid in a group context.

In order to describe the message, two different contexts may be identified:

an interaction when two nursing staff members are in the same room.

a phone conversation.

The suggested rules apply to both situations, with slight differences according to the context.

The closest situation to the aviation rules of phraseology is a phone conversation between two caregivers. We suggest extending the use of these rules to face-to-face interactions when the two people happen to be in the same room.
