ABSTRACT
This chapter details the methodology employed throughout this book, namely a value-driven methodology that places a premium on the tools and methods of analytic philosophy while maintaining a firm commitment to the importance of theological scripture and tradition. After characterizing analytic and exegetically engaged theology, then, we turn to a taxonomy of value in which the overall value of forgiveness—i.e., the sort of forgiveness that we care about in this theological context—can be weighed. This determination of the value of forgiveness (i.e., forgiveness tied to questions of atonement) helps us locate our target concept for the reflections in the coming chapters, and we conclude with some initial considerations involving the method of reflective equilibrium by which the deliverances of this study are balanced.
