ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the theme of the dynamic interplay of Bangladeshi immigrants in LA. It shows the situation of Bangladeshis in Southern California as compared with that of their compatriots living in other places: especially New York City, and more generally across the US. The chapter will also show that the Bangladeshis of Southern California represent distinctive ways of living and working in the US. In this chapter, I turn to the movement of my respondents within and between places. As we will see, for some Bangladeshi Americans, the assertion is that life is a journey. This saying tells us that the travel evokes a vibrant sense of movement for one’s own business or personal purposes, utilizing a variety of resources, both in the US and in Bangladesh.
