ABSTRACT

This concluding note argues that the Bangladeshis in Southern California represent a distinctive way of living and working in the US. They have spent many decades there and now feel a part of this society. Ethnographic data show upwardly mobile, professional, or businesspeople seeing America as a place of economic opportunity and security, anxious to fit in while retaining their transnational ties and ties with others of the same national/ethnic background, and interested in politics back home.
