ABSTRACT

The literature on healthcare and corporate IT governance identifies keys, or critical success factors, for effective IT governance. Healthcare executives interviewed for this book have added their own judgments, which are quoted in this chapter. The keys to success include the careful definition of who is responsible and accountable for decisions. For example, IT staff should not be the primary sponsors of projects, so clinical and management sponsors must be involved from the beginning, as well as the people who will actually use the systems implemented.
