ABSTRACT

IT governance requires the definition of a process for project proposal, review, prior-itization, approval and management. This process is often closely related to the capital budgeting process, especially in terms of the time line for project approval. A workflow is defined for the involved committees. For example, project sponsors may be required to submit proposals at specific times to allow consideration by advisory committees in order to provide recommendations to the IT governance committee. The IT governance committee is then mandated to propose projects for the capital budgeting process by a specific date. Below are the processes and workflows that need to be designed as well as information on how the three hospitals and systems studied (see Chapters 6 through 8) carry them out.
