ABSTRACT

Chapter Five explores the rehearsal period of a theatrical production. The stage manager is guided from the first meeting to the final days before moving into the theatre. Six phases of rehearsal are explored, along with tips for managing conflicts, creating schedules, creating a healthy and safe rehearsal space, and running production meetings. Blocking is explored in detail, along with preparing the rehearsal hall. The interrelationship between the stage manager and the assistant stage manager is discussed, as is the procedure for taping out the groundplan on a rehearsal room floor. The key pieces of paperwork introduced in this chapter include the daily call, the rehearsal report, and script change logs.
