ABSTRACT

To begin the discussion for 18th-century European furniture for Italy, France and England the preceding historical period, the Baroque must be touched upon because of its transitional status. It follows the Renaissance and precedes the 18th century Rococo style in France, and Queen Anne and Georgian in England. Baroque features overlap—interweaving into 18th century design. The furniture featured on the chapter’s “pictorial timeline” represents 18th century Rococo style in France, Queen Anne and Georgian in England, and the American Late Colonial period. After completing the chapter the reader will decide which pieces to document and using The Analysis of Form: Nine-Step Methodology will begin the graphic analysis for the chapter.
