ABSTRACT

This chapter will discuss in brief the impact on furniture design by movements which evolve from the 1970s through 1990s. Movements characterized by a loss of faith in the forward momentum of modernism and the impact of advancement in the computer and telecommunications industries. Noticeable toward the end of the 20th century is that the categorization of furniture in relation to a specific movement unlike other periods is indistinct. Evident for this chapter the “pictorial timeline” pieces appear less zoned. The author has limited the timeline pieces to three movements, High-tech, Postmodermism, Deconstructivism. After completing the chapter the reader will decide which pieces to document and using the Analysis of Form: Nine-Step Methodology will begin the graphic analysis for the chapter.
