ABSTRACT

The term antiquity refers to the ancient past, “the great civilizations” the periods before the Middle Ages, circa 5th–15th centuries. Pertaining to the this book the great civilizations denote Egypt, Greece and Rome. This chapter will cover furniture design of the period and regions briefly. There are few actual examples remaining in existence for this time period. Provided on the “pictorial timeline” are specific examples the author believes exemplify furniture design and construction of the time period and regions. After completing the chapter the reader will decide which pieces to document and using The Analysis of Form: Nine-Step Methodology will begin the graphic analysis for the Chapter.
