ABSTRACT

This chapter describes in detail the three components of infant and toddler environments: the physical/ learning environment, the social/emotional environment and the routines and transitions of the classroom. How caregivers develop these three aspects of infant and toddler environments appropriately is explained as a way to help the children feel a sense of security and engagement with their caregivers and their surroundings. Children will then feel a desire to explore and learn, and caregiver strategies for encouraging this active learning are described.
