ABSTRACT
This chapter shows how my early years shaped my values and beliefs which influenced my later choice of Work and Industrial Relations as an academic career, field of research and teaching. It commences with the sources of inspiration for this book, the influence of my family and friends, primary school days, adolescent years at high school, significant teachers and involvement in church and YMCA activities.
