ABSTRACT
This chapter describes my experiences in Sweden where I spent a year at the University of Lund on a Rotary International Foundation postgraduate scholarship. I undertook research for a Master’s degree based on a comparison of leisure in suburban communities in Sweden and Australia. I returned to the University of Melbourne to complete my thesis and lectured on Swedish politics. After getting married, I moved to Denmark with my wife, Gwen, to become a visiting scholar at the University of Copenhagen.
