ABSTRACT

This chapter describes my experiences as a doctoral candidate at the London School of Economics, where I learned a great deal from my supervisor, Keith Thurley. I undertook research on the emergence of information technologists and other technical specialists in the management and organisation of British European Airways. I gained valuable experience as a member of a research department in the airline. I became active in the British Fabian Society and published a monograph with them on Swedish Social Democracy. I was also freelance correspondent for The Nation magazine on current affairs in Europe.
