ABSTRACT

The future of Work and Industrial Relations has become an issue of greater interest during the past decade as a result of global economic recessions and climate change. While unionisation has declined in many advanced western economies, labour movements have been active in many emerging economies, particularly in Asia. Unions, employers and governments face many challenges as the world of work changes around them. The focus of my research returned to the Nordic countries where unions retain a strong role but must adapt to ongoing economic and social changes. I have also been engaged in collaborative projects with colleagues in Asia which is the main locus of global economic growth and will have a major impact on our future.
