ABSTRACT

I have spoken on occasion of books which have sought me out and forced themselves upon me with an insistence which was not to be denied. These books must always remain for me among my choicest treasures, for invariably when their battle has been won and I have succumbed to their pressing ideas of good, I have found that they have become my most beloved friends, to whom I have continued to turn year after year, for comfort and for wisdom and for joy.
