ABSTRACT

There are times when, in the happily endless search for materials to enrich any given library, the librarian has an opportunity to visit a private collector’s home and personal library. Such opportunities provide experiences that are usually exceedingly happy but sometimes touched with real sadness. I, for one, never am happy about finding myself face to face with a bookman who because of some misfortune is forced to dispose of his personal book collection. But there are other times when the opportunity to explore a book collector’s private collection is provocative, rewarding and filled with real pleasure.
