ABSTRACT

In the course of more than forty years of service in academic libraries, it has been my privilege to know personally a few of the leading figures on the national library scene. And it occurs to me that it might not be amiss to pay them tribute now and then. With this in mind, I would pay honor first of all to a lady who was without question one of the truly great librarians of this century. Blanche P. McCrum served our profession for nearly half a century with great distinction, but so quietly and unobtrusively that often what she was doing almost escaped notice.
