ABSTRACT

Chapter 10 is about how arts integration supports the assessment of student learning outcomes, as well as how the arts open avenues to assess the unexpected, such as discovering hidden talents and the inner socio-emotional lives of learners. Myths such as “the arts are subjective; you can’t assess the arts and creativity” are debunked and tools are provided to engage in both formative and summative assessments through the arts. A checklist for administrators as to what to expect in a classroom that integrates the arts is provided. Most importantly, a second look is taken at how the arts can be the forum for students to show their strengths and weaknesses in the progress of reaching learning goals is provided.
