ABSTRACT

What does it mean to be a learner? And, what is the role of mindset and grit to being imaginative and creative as well as intellectual development? These are the central questions addressed in Chapter 3. Wonder, passion, engagement, and risk taking are all fundamental aspects of the arts. In this chapter we examine how aspects of the arts are central to the intersection of art as a tool of learning. The chapter includes numerous examples of teachers and students—in their own voices, as they grapple with “what does it mean to be a learner?”
