ABSTRACT

Literacy and the arts is at the core of this chapter which includes examples from classrooms K-12. Dancing to learn cursive writing, sketch noting to understand concepts, picto-spellings to learn spelling and word comprehension, composing music to accompany storybooks, and using drama to bring stories to life are all included in this chapter. A focus on the use of poetry to engage English language learners is examined in depth. Several examples of different kinds of poetry are presented along with examples from classrooms.
