ABSTRACT

Math and the arts are a wonderful pairing. Think about paintings and art prints, each have underlying mathematical elements of lines, space, form, texture, value, and color. Music has beats and rhythms, and can be very mathematical, in fact several composers have written pieces that meld music and math into mathematical concepts including a musical mobius strip. Using dance to act out equations, visual art to play math detective, and story building and children’s books to create and solve mathematical problems are a few of the activities presented in this chapter.
