ABSTRACT
– The 1973 meeting in Washington which signed CITES decided to ask the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to take charge of the convention secretariat. UNEP contracted the task to the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN). The secretariat’s offices are at IUCN, in Gland VD, near Geneva, Switzerland.
