ABSTRACT

It is important for teachers to coordinate with other service providers, as their classrooms do not sit in isolation. Resource mapping of key personnel with a school or district as well as academic, social-emotional and physical wellbeing programs and critical community services (Adelman & Taylor, 2006) helps to identify existing resources and specific personnel that a teacher may draw upon to support students and families. After a relationship of trust and caring has been established with families, teachers can serve as important ambassadors for these resources. Teachers should be mindful that addressing individual needs and related societal injustice simultaneously is required for students and families to heal and thrive. Being reflective and making ethical decisions is key to being a part of positive collective action. Engaging with colleagues to check in on any implicit biases or potential negative consequences will support teachers in doing right by students and families.
