ABSTRACT

The case studies to be presented in this chapter are selected based on advanced and state-of-the-art research or design practices with an emphasis or a primary focus on human health and wellbeing outcomes. We discuss the work of University of Arizona (UA) Institute on Place, Wellbeing, and Performance including the large-scale Government Services Administration office and workplace studies as well as the living-lab-scale human-subject research projects. Case studies from other interdisciplinary and international research teams that use unique sensing and data collection techniques to inform the design of built environments for better health, productivity, and performance are included. Specific projects related to virtual reality and Internet of Things bioresponsive environments are presented in detail based on both the UA work and comprehensive literature review and network with experts in these fields.
