ABSTRACT

The basics of sensing and data acquisition in built environments and human biosensing are presented in this chapter. The range of sensing techniques covered includes environmental sensing, biosensing, neurosensing, material sensing, and microbial sensing. The types of data collected from sensing devices are discussed in terms of the various quantifiable and qualifiable metrics that can be associated with the different sets, resolutions, and scales of information. In addition to the human, environmental, and material data acquisition and management, additional data that might be needed for related calculations such as construction costs for return-on-investment analysis are discussed.
