ABSTRACT

The chapter is organized around two themes: design platforms and measurement methods. The design and analysis methods that we engage as architects and researchers of the built environment inform the type of results that emerge. In the first section, we discuss how existing design platforms such as Building Information Management and parametric three-dimensional software can be accessed and enhanced to inform human health and wellbeing outcomes in the design process. We also present two emerging areas of study including virtual reality environments and Internet of Things integration platforms. In the second section, we discuss the various measurement and analysis methods utilizing data from the sensing acquisition techniques indicated in Chapters 2.1 and 2.2. We expand on the correlational data analysis methods for making sense of human biometrics with environmental and material data. We also expand on the methods necessary for more comprehensive return-on-investment analysis, life cycle analysis, and human wellbeing and performance analytics.
