ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on ethernet-based control and supporting applications designed to work with media servers via a network. Most lighting consoles already use networking to communicate with other lighting consoles as well as distributed processing nodes for distributing data to lighting fixtures, so networking should be a familiar part of a programmer’s workflow. In 2008, Green Hippo released “ZooKeeper,” its remote server management application for the Hippotizer family of servers. Zookeeper‘s strength is that it allows all servers to be remotely accessed from a central location. In the mid-2000s, PRG released its own remote monitoring application for the Mbox Media Server family, the Mbox Remote. Some media servers have incorporated remote monitoring directly into the graphical user interface.
