ABSTRACT

In the early days of media servers, it was common for servers to only have one video output; configuring one output was easy and it didn’t really require much other than configuring the resolution and refresh rate of the output, and the server would do the layer mapping. Media servers have come a long way since the days of one output, and most have a minimum of two or more, with some having as many as 16 outputs in a single machine. A Mix explained in Mbox terminology refers to an area within the total resolution for all outputs, a number that is determined by the number of outputs and the resolution of each output combined. A mix in Hippo terminology refers to a grouping of layers that are composited together using layer mix modes. Creating exciting video cues is just one part of the programming workflow.
