ABSTRACT

Many media servers support audio output and allow an audio file to either be played back as a file on its own or embedded inside a video clip. When an audio track is embedded in a video clip, specific labeling of the clip may be required in order to enable audio output, as is the case for MBox Designer. The final step of programming audio and programming video is exactly the same: the audio signal or video signal needs to be connected to something in order to be displayed or heard. Most media servers come with a factory-installed sound card, and the output connector on that audio card is usually referred to as a Mini-jack, or 1/8” mini-jack. Some media servers feature additional audio ports for use with professional audio systems. A very popular type of audio networking protocol that is quickly becoming an industry standard is known as Dante Virtual Soundcard.
