ABSTRACT

As media servers continue to evolve, DMX lighting control is no longer the only option for programming and playback control. Servers can be controlled in a variety of ways, including internal timelines and cuelists, or they may be connected to larger systems through networks and triggered remotely via proprietary software, OSC, or automation protocols. There are many advantages to controlling a media server using one of these methods instead of via DMX. One advantage is that the user interfaces are specifically designed to maximize the benefits of the server, making it easier to locate all of the features without complicated menus or configurations. Media servers with internal playback control may provide this control via a timeline feature. Some media servers allow stored cues or presets to be triggered directly from the user interface in a non-linear fashion.
