ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses how video can be integrated into a production using LED technology. LEDs have allowed scenic, lighting, and video designers to incorporate video elements into all aspects of a live performance in ways previously not possible. The innovations in LED technology have resulted in some exciting lighting fixtures for the entertainment industry. Many challenges, specifically brightness, have led to technological advancements in the LEDs themselves, as well as in optics and microprocessor chips. Audience blinders and strobes have also been updated to become lo-res LED panels with color mixing and pixel mapping capabilities and a lot of output, making them extremely attractive and practical for lighting designers and scenic designers alike. Scenic designers are faced with many options for creating a set, and many scenic designers have embraced LED technology into various elements around the stage.
