ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at some of the types of products commonly used with media servers. It is almost a given that the readers will encounter most if not all of these at one time or another while working with media servers. Knowing a little about each of them will make the readers' life a lot easier: LED walls, projectors, video scaler, scan converter, video switcher, and video distribution amplifier. LEDs have found their way into soft goods, and LED curtains can now be found in resolutions ranging from 18 mm to 200 mm, available from companies like PixelFLEX and Main Light. LED screens, panels, and displays, whether soft or rigid, generally require a processor for operation. A video scaler is used to process an image in one resolution and resize it to a completely different resolution. Switchers feature multiple inputs and multiple outputs, and they allow flexible routing of video and audio signals.
