ABSTRACT
In the same way that full Russian names can be easily identified as male or female by their endings, other Russian words also have gender and can be masculine or feminine. In Russian there is no strict word order, and words are linked into sentences by different “identifiers” attached to the end of them. Russians have specific words to indicate whether an animal is male or female. This chapter provides an activity to start developing a skill of noting the gender of Russian words and linking words correctly when gender is involved. Most Russian verbs have only one form in the present tense. Most Russian consonants have two versions: plain and palatalised. Though palatalisation might sound a bit tricky, it is quite manageable. To differentiate between two similar words, it might help to find some kind of a link or an association in real life.
