ABSTRACT
Chapter 1 provides a brief introduction to poetry and poetry translation. We first define poetry and associate poetic style with the notion of foregrounding in linguistic analysis. We then discuss some translators’ opinions on poetry translation. Further, we report on some findings based on a survey of papers on poetry translation published between 2002 and 2019 in journals indexed by the Web of Science database.
