ABSTRACT

Changes in behavior are usually preceded and driven by changes in thoughts and beliefs. So it stands to reason that if engineer want operators and maintenance mechanics to change the way they do machine changeovers, then the operators and mechanics must first change what occurs between their ears. Most operators have their own method of doing changeovers, and even when several people routinely do the same operation in the same facility, each operator typically performs the changeover differently. The ReducedEffort Changeover process allows both managers and operators to quickly see and accept a different way to perform changeovers. Plant managers know how difficult it is to get seasoned operators to change the way they have always performed tasks, such as changeovers. One of the major loss buckets is the downtime associated with changeovers. Plant managers, line supervisors, and engineering managers are looking to cut changeover downtime.
