ABSTRACT

Schools, in principle, should be class-blinded. They shouldn’t have an upper-class, a lower-class, or a middle-class perspective, and shouldn’t prioritize the traditions and taste system of a certain class. Instead, the schools should invite everyone in. Schools must be able to compensate for the fact that everybody comes from very different homes, very different social backgrounds, and the school’s task and challenge is to be this common denominator. One knows that schooling started in the 1800s, and it was very much an agrarian- then industry-based model of schooling in terms of school hours and school times. Schools need to be core to the great civilizing effect in the society, especially for children. Unlike the private schools, which have branding companies, many government schools were engaging in branding by coming up with claims about their school, and of course every August in Australia, when parents make decisions where to send their students, it’s a massive mass market.
