ABSTRACT

The biosphere is the habitat of all the life forms on this planet. Dasmann (1976) has defined it as:

The fine layer of soil, rock, water and air that surrounds planet earth, along with the living organisms for which it provides support, and which modify it in directions that either enhance or lessen its life-supporting capacity.

Within the biosphere can be found all the myriads of different ecosystems. Each ecosystem interrelates with its neighbour, a change in one ecosystem will cause a ripple effect to run across adjacent systems, bringing an element of change.
