ABSTRACT
This chapter provides readers with a theoretical foundation to better understand adolescent multilingual writing research by reviewing and explaining three of the most dominant perspectives on writing, which are cognitive, sociocultural, and critical perspectives. Instead of treating each perspective as autonomous, this chapter also addresses the intersections between perspectives.
