ABSTRACT

This chapter is intended to illuminate the rich, diverse, and meaningful writing practices in which many adolescent multilingual writers engage outside of school (e.g., online, home, community, and workplace). It discusses the value and characteristics of out-of-school writing 38(e.g., self-initiated, voluntary, intentional, interest-driven, and peer-driven) and illustrates ways in which adolescent multilingual students write, communicate, learn, and represent themselves through out-of-school writing across various social contexts.
