ABSTRACT

Drawing upon the discussions about in-school and out-of-school writing in the two previous chapters, this chapter looks into the connections between in-school and out-of-school literate lives. It focuses on discussing how the connections between the two have been conceptualized in the literature, from earlier conversations to more recent and critical ones. In addition, this chapter proposes an expanded perspective of the connections, or what I term a symbiotic approach, which emphasizes exploring and cultivating bidirectional relationships between the two.
