ABSTRACT

Regional cooperation as an integrated part of the European energy policy is a mechanism which facilitates the implementation of European integration instruments – trans-European networks. The Energy Community was founded by the European Union in 2005 as a mechanism of cooperation with neighbouring regions for the purpose of creating a legal context for the propagation of European energy norms to the regions of the Balkans, Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia. The subject is transversal, because it is concerned with the status of all consumers, general economic performance, the reduction of carbon emissions, and the technological revolution in the energy sector – subjects that unequivocally qualify among the European objectives of the Energy Union. Mentioning regional cooperation in terms of energy as a specific priority can be important from the standpoint of the correct operationalization of cooperation in the downstream energy sector.
