ABSTRACT

In an ideal world, we’d all be managing projects that were perfectly set up for success and proceeded smoothly without any unexpected interruptions or surprises. Whenever a project runs into issues, the best thing one can do is go back to basics and review the objectives. As the project manager, that is what they are there to deliver, and in the excitement and stress of a project going wrong it can be quite easy to lose sight of what they had originally set out to do. When a project is failing, the decision is often taken to replace the project manager and bring someone else in to rescue the job. If one have managed a few projects successfully – or they just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, this may mean that they are drafted in to a project which is already widely considered to be failing, or even to have already failed.
